Where’d all the other posts go?
Having just started up this blog I wasn’t quite sure about the legality of some of the videos I was using. I posted a question on a gay webmasters forum and someone from Titan remarked that
We also currently have a case where the person embedded one of our clips in his page from a pirate tube site. Guess what? He’s liable for it and he ending up having to pay us for it. He had “editorial control” over the choice of the content, embedded the clip into his site, and profited from advertising banners surrounding the pirated file. This is also especially true for clips from Ning sites….they are almost all pirated clips!
I should mention that the rumor is that Titan makes more money from suing people for using their content illegally than from selling it to legitimate customers. If anyone knows the legalities involved, they do…
So that about settles it… I’m sticking with 1) amateur content from sites that are known as places amateurs distribute genuine amateur content (like XTube), 2) teen content from “sponsors”, 3) and amateur content from other trusted tube sites like RocketTube which are known to run a tight ship. My use of ning sites will be very, very minimal.
The bottom line for me is that I want to avoid lawsuits and maintain good relationships with sponsors.
